That is WAY too lo...500 or 600 calories a day!?!?! That is WAY too low. I can't imagine any health care professional responsibly making a recommendation like that. You should tell your surgeon because I cannot imagine that he/she believes that is all you should eat.

When I was losing, I ate anywhere from 1,200 - 1,500 calories per day. Now that I am in maintenance, I average 1,500 - 1,800. I exercise moderately every day. I lost 100 lbs. in 10 months and 115 lbs overall.Amanda Kiskahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08035180757671095192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625435124171546357.post-88438344731985768032012-01-19T11:55:36.998-08:002012-01-19T11:55:36.998-08:00everyone is different, of course. but i do the bes...everyone is different, of course. but i do the best staying around 700-800 cals a day. and i do NOT eat back my exercise calories. if i go much above that, my loss lessens pretty significantly.

now of course once you get to maitenance, it's a whole new story!trishajohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01624986844629181388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625435124171546357.post-71925859630388136622012-01-18T07:59:24.261-08:002012-01-18T07:59:24.261-08:00My surgeon and nutritionist advised that if you in...My surgeon and nutritionist advised that if you incorporate exercise into being banded that you should eat more! That is different for each of us.

I eat between 1400 and 1500 a day and I am losing, when I was eating 900 - 1100 calories I maintained for months, so my body needs more to lose. I know it makes no sense you would think the lower you go the more you lost, but actually your body thinks it is starving and worries about where it's next fuel is coming from so it tend to holds on to what it has.

When you feed it, then it lets go of fat.

I am like Vicky in that I change it up though I will eat 1400 one week and then 1200 or 1300 the next and so forth, I never let my body get used to a number.

Each of us is different, I worked really hard in the beginning to find out what my body did and would react to by experimenting. I learned so much by trial and error.Kristinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13156943361193851644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625435124171546357.post-46675437259963798792012-01-18T06:30:46.712-08:002012-01-18T06:30:46.712-08:00It seems low to me but then again, I have a hard t...It seems low to me but then again, I have a hard time coming in under 1200/day. REALLY? The lowest I was ever told is bet. 800-1000. One nutritionist did say "Aim for about 800" while you're losing and then add in an extra 200-300 calories for maintenance.Melissa Wolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06154852859685461201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625435124171546357.post-14263700216510028242012-01-18T05:30:43.797-08:002012-01-18T05:30:43.797-08:00Others may disagree, but I see the info given to u...Others may disagree, but I see the info given to us by the NUT as a "guideline". Everyone's body reacts differently to this journey and I think that the biggest thing is to figure out what works best for you. I can tell you that I don't lose anything at less than 1,000 calories a day (I figured this out when I hit a 3 week stall a month out of surgery). Over the past 13 months, whenever I hit a long stall I have bumped my calories up a bit and just this week I am trying 1,200-1,300 to see if that works.

My advice to you is to play around with it and you'll find the level that works best for you...vickydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15461568169152483129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625435124171546357.post-26124402648615486462012-01-18T01:13:12.242-08:002012-01-18T01:13:12.242-08:00My surgeon wants me under 800, so 900-1000 sounds ...My surgeon wants me under 800, so 900-1000 sounds fine to me. Since then it has always been to aim for 1200! I think especially if you are on a restricted exercise regimen, 1000 should be good. I've never thought staying any lower for any extended amount of time would be healthy.
Just my opinion... I was not exercising at all. After I lost 50 lbs. and started exercising I had to increase that to 1200 calories a day. That is what I am for 1200-1300 calories a day (and about 1500 on my lax day). Do what is right for your body. Everyone is different and has to eat different calorie amounts.Brendahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01224553026819361465noreply@blogger.com
